The interview was refreshing, particularly seeing her sober. She came across as intelligent and eloquent. I'm skeptical about her having a mental disorder; it seems more like her mother's excuse for poor parenting. It's clear Veronica never aspired to be an actress; it was her mother who pushed her into it.

Few people know her hairstyle of long blonde hair over one eye was an accident while doing a photo shoot. The photo was a discard. Someone thought it was intentional and it got published. This was 1941. That style became the rage. After Pearl Harbor in December 1941 women started entering War Industry jobs. They arrived with their hair down and across their face when they lean over machinery. One woman had her scalp ripped when her hair was caught in a spinning mill. The feds ordered all women to put their hair up and behind their head. Could not be below the ears and no bangs. When you see 'Rosie the Riveter' photos that hairstyle was the Safety answer to Veronica Lake's dangling (accidental) hairstyle.

After Veronica died, her mother said that she had been schizophrenic since she was a child and that's why she put her to study acting! Later, when Veronica became a famous movie star in Hollywood, her mother sued her for not giving her financial support! and to make matters worse after Veronica dies, the mother publishes a book about the life of her daughter. Draw your own conclusions!!

The image of Veronica Lake - with regards to museums and history - will outlive the image of Marilyn Monroe. I know that sounds nutty because Marilyn's iconic likeness is everywhere, but 500 years from now, and from then on, Veronica Lake is someone whose face and voice will be far more "branded" for inexplicable reasons. No one will be around to prove me wrong, but someone, ages from now, will read this and say, "That guy was right."

Veronica Lake was a Hollywood illusion, created by makeup artists, hair stylists and lighting. Her true appearance and commonality began to be exposed in her 30's and 40's.

Ms. Lake's old co star Alan Ladd made his perhaps best known movie the next year , Shane with much older co star Jean Arthur while she is doing TV interviews on the poor cousin Dumont network . The program that Ms. McElhone briefly refers to at the beginning is Leave It To The Girls , a gabfest which a panel of four ? women debated a topic with a lone male . That's an idea I am surprised they don't have that today . Coincidentally Lake and Arthur did Peter Pan . I guess something happened on the Lake run of PP , i know that Arthur did a limited music version on Broadway with Boris Karloff as Captain Hook . Arthurs friend Mary Martin did the more complete musical version which became one her signature roles . Ms. Lake was very perceptive in her explanation of TV : a combination of the stage , radio , motion pictures . Mr. Segal actually directs a portion of his interview time . His daughter was the co star of 1980s sitcom Married With Children .

In the past people looked older than now, shes is only 30 years old and for older women in compaction with the current average. In addition, Verónica had alcohol problems, but i noticed it in more people of the time. I also want to add this: Veronica Lake 1922 - 1973 Eloise McElhone conduct 1921-1974 Chilling similarities.

She didn't want to be an actress. She even told her parents that but her mother insisted and pushed her into it. Apparently, she didn't know she had cirrhosis of the liver until right before she died. She probably would have lived longer with a transplant. But it wasn't until the late 70's. that it became a viable option.

Gosh, hell no. Veronica's hair style makes her so much older. And the old-fashioned dress as well. And the light engineering in the studio kills her at the end. Her personal Titanic moment. So awfully sad. So we can see what bad advice from stylists and terrible light and camera work can make with you. She was actually one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. Tragic alcohol consumption gives it an extra.
